Serpent in the Flower Necklace by CosmicFolklore Serpent in the Flower Necklace by CosmicFolklore
Serpent in the Flower Necklace; sterling silver, 22k gold, swamp bog jasper, amethyst, faceted rubies, and apatite beads.

I made this for a Rotary Gala auction to be held later this month. I am very proud to participate with this event along with many other artists and artisans.

The gold was rolled out very thin and fused into the sterling. It was then etched and patina'd to give it depth and texture. The serpent was hand forged and carved.

I particularly enjoyed setting these rubies into the prongs holding the amethyst cab. Working on such a microscopic tube setting was challenging, and I think it really set this piece off :)

Hmmmm, now what to do next?

(edit) I re-posted the picture of this one. I had to dim the lights to keep the reflections down in the initial shot, so I manipulated it a little to bring up the contrast and lighten the pendant.

I really like the design for this necklace. The two larger cabs balance the piece very nicely... I take it those are the swamp bog jasper? It's funny... I had never heard of swamp bog until you mentioned it yesterday. Mark knew what it was of course... I've yet to see him NOT know what a gemstone type is!

But yeah.. I personally think this is your best floral necklace design yet:)

Thanks, this design has saved me in what would otherwise be a selling slump for me.

I have seen it called petrified swamp bog, swamp bog jasper, and just swamp bog. It looks like it is has tiny little leaves and moss materials embedded into it, when you look at it through the loop. I figured Mark would know. He is my stone guru. I think of him as hovering on a magic carpet in a cloud in lotus position, and if I need a questioned answered on stone, I can just note him and he sends the reply by tiny little birds, :D

This piece will be featured in our local newspaper. They will come and do an interview with me on Sunday about my donations to charity auctions. (not much other news around here;) ) I am excited, but I have a feeling that I will be making similar flowers for a short while. I just hope they don't get tedious to make. I will have to swap it up a bit :D

Thanks for your kind words about the design. I need to get through the work on my bench, so that I can make some earrings to go with it :)

Rock on :D

Looking forward to seeing the matching earrings:) congrats on getting some free press from your donation! I'm glad you find Mark so helpful... I know I've learned tons form him since we met! I had little to no interest in rocks such as agate before meeting Mark.. he opened up a whole world for me!

Thank you, yes, I love to read about what people went through, were thinking, or struggled with on a piece. I sometimes see works and ask questions never to hear back, so I vowed to try my best to get as much information to people as possible. It makes the piece more tangible. Maybe, I am too chatty sometimes :typerhappy:

I am realizing that different people are on DA for different reasons... I think our goals intertwined a weebit Michael... ;)

I always enjoyed those comments that went a bit further into details, though maybe sometimes I failed at listing more details of how and why I made a certain piece, but since not too many cared so....

but know that I do appreciate all these sharing of your process, especially train of thoughts!!!

and nope.. you're not too chatty... :giggle: But I do need to have more time to think and respond...

Think???
LOL, I just start typing. Watch out, improvisational jazzman busting a chatty comment freestyle with a little skatty skat, bee bop thrown in.

Talk first, think latter :D then your train of thought shows through...

Thanks, I like to design to the minutest detail. The more detail, the longer one looks at something :D

It's a good cause, so I hope it does do well.
I like hammering out the little snakes. I keep trying to come up with designs where I can integrate more forging into my work. I always hate to see a hammer hanging in its spot, when it could be whacking away :)
